Spiritual Revival: When Being Takes Precedence Over Appearing

Spiritual Revival: When Being Takes Precedence Over Appearing

In a world where appearance takes precedence over depth, where seeming appears more important than being, it is urgent to return to the very essence of our faith. Spiritual revival is a state of awareness of the reality of Christ. It is a deep inner transformation, produced by an authentic return to God.

1. THE PRESENCE OF GOD: A RIVER, NOT A LAKE

The presence of God is not a static reality; it is dynamic, moving, like a river that flows and grows.

There are three essential dimensions to this experience:

The restoration of God's presence: Bringing His presence back where it has been lost.

The establishment of God's presence: Establishing it where it has never been.

The increase of God's presence:

Making His presence grow where it is already present.

Far from being a passing emotion, the presence of God is a transforming power. Yet it is not automatically in everyone. It must be sought, cultivated and surrendered to.

2. THE ILLUSION OF APPEARANCE AND TRUE REVIVAL

Revival is not only about others; it begins within ourselves. Too often, we pray for the revival of others while we ourselves are asleep. We want to remove the speck from someone else's eye without seeing the plank in our own. But how can a blind man lead another blind man?

The danger of appearance-based Christianity is that it pushes us to do things for God without doing them with God. Yet in the divine economy, what matters is not so much action as communion. Jesus Himself warned:

“Many will say to me on that day, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons? […] Then I will tell them plainly, I never knew you.” (Matthew 7:22-23)

Doing works for God without being connected to Him is one of the greatest spiritual tragedies. True revival does not rest on outward acts but on inner transformation.

3. PRAY, YES, BUT FROM A POSITION OF COMMUNION

True intercession does not lie in merely reciting prayers, but in a position before God. A true intercessor does not simply speak; he is a channel through which God acts. That is why the power of intercession depends on nearness to God.

God is looking for men and women who do not just pray for revival, but who become carriers of it themselves. Like Abraham, who first received the blessing before becoming a source of blessing for the nations, we must be reservoirs of God’s presence before we can pass it on.

4. REVIVAL: A REALITY, A NECESSITY, A NORMALITY

Revival is much more than a spiritual aspiration; it is a biblical reality, a necessity for the believer and a normal part of the Christian life.

A reality: Jesus is the resurrection and the life. Revival is not just a religious movement, it is a person: Christ Himself.

A necessity: Without revival, there is no true spiritual life, no intimacy with God, no fruitfulness in the work of God.

A normality: A revived church should not be the exception, but the rule. The normal Christian life is a life on fire for God.

5. THE DANGER OF SPIRITUAL PROFESSIONALISM

One of the great dangers lurking for preachers and servants of God is falling into a professional Christianity. When we begin to master the art of preaching without being connected to the voice of God, we become an orator instead of an oracle. We know how to structure messages and touch people’s emotions, but the voice of the Spirit is absent.

This trap awaits everyone who serves God: when the role takes precedence over the relationship, when we talk about God without talking with God. But God is not looking for orators; He is looking for burning hearts, men and women who are in communion with Him.

6. THE FAÇADE OF FIRE DOES NOT BURN

There is a difference between looking on fire and being on fire. A person can be restless, pray loudly, seem animated, and yet be dead inside. Jesus said:

“I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being alive, but you are dead.” (Revelation 3:1)

Many churches today are full of activity, noise and preaching, but empty of God’s presence. The reality of revival is not measured by agitation, but by the transformation of hearts.

7. SPIRITUAL SLEEP: A DEADLY TRAP

Spiritual sleep is one of the greatest dangers of the Christian life. It steals our fervor and our intimacy with God and makes us vulnerable to the enemy’s attacks.

A sleeping Christian cannot hear God clearly.

A sleeping Christian cannot bear fruit.

A sleeping Christian is easy prey for the enemy.

A corpse cannot give birth. A spiritually dead person cannot impact those around them. It is not enough to be active; we must be spiritually alive.

8. WAKING UP BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE

God’s word is clear: “If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)

All revival begins with humility. We must acknowledge our condition, accept being broken before God and seek His presence without compromise. We must turn away from hypocrisy, stop playing a role and return to an authentic relationship with God.

Revival does not happen by praying for others; it begins in us. The time for appearances is over; it is time to be real. It is time to wake up.

THE LORD IS NEAR

Lord, create in us a pure heart and renew a steadfast spirit within us, in the name of JESUS CHRIST. Amen.
